So... What does Proteus Sound mean, anyway?!
Jesse and Holly, both, are proud of their heritage and love history. When having to come up with a name for the business was necessary it was only natural to incorporate those two things with it!
"Proteus" was a New England whaling ship in the mid to late 1800's owned by Jesse's family. Upon researching the word, it was found that "Proteus" was also a greek sea-god who could transform into different shapes. Protean, a word coming from Proteus, has positive connotations of flexibility, versatility, and adaptability.
"Sound" is the most important word for a farrier. Keeping horses sound is the number one goal. It also keeps with our love of the ocean, as being a large sea or ocean inlet between two bodies of land.
We've brought the things we love together in a play on words, and titled ourselves by it. The ship, the transformation; as in of the feet and teeth, sound; as in sturdy and sure- also the body of water which is ever changing, our family, and our heritage.
